Pearl S. Buck
Ia dilahirkan di Hillsboro, Virginia Varat 26 Juni 1892. Melewatkan masa kecilnya di Cina, tempat orangtuanya bertugas sebagai misionaris Presbyterian, ia telah fasih berbahasa Cina sebelum dapat berbahasa Inggris. Pearl kembali ke Amerika Serikat dan menamatkan pendidikan di Randolph-Macon Woman`s College di Virginia. Setelah menikah dengan John Lossing Buck, seorang guru agrikulturm ia kembali ke Cina. Pada tahun 1930 terbit novelnya yang pertama East Wind, West Wind. Tahun berikutnya (1931) dia mendapat kemasyhuran lewat The Good Earth yang memenangkan Pulitzer Prize tahun 1932 dan telah difilmkan juga. Pearl S. Buck telah menulis lebih dari 80 buku.
